The Bridesmaids are chosen by the Bride, albeit potentially with a little input from the Groom. Two decisions need to be taken when it comes to Bridesmaids - how many and who?
When it comes to the number of Bridesmaids, experts reckon you should have no more than eight, but at Weddingsday (and we like to think of ourselves as experts) we would advise that you aim for a maximum of five (not including the Chief Bridesmaid) – more than that (especially if they are all adult Bridesmaids) can swamp the Bride a little. In terms of age range, there is no minimum or maximum age – the only real guide is to have at least one Bridesmaid around the same age as the Bride and, if you are feeling brave, include one or two little ones (ideally aged over 8ish – younger ones can serve as Flower Girls rather than fully fledged Bridesmaids) – this will help to add that all-important ‘aah’ factor.
If you do opt to include a junior Bridesmaid, you should look to ensure that they are:
- Confident
- Well behaved
- And most importantly, cute!
When it comes to a senior Bridesmaid, they should possess several characteristics that will be put to use throughout the course of the build up to the day and the day itself, in particular, a senior Bridesmaid should be:
- Tactful
- Cheery
- Laid back
- Helpful
- Happy to be photographed
- Supportive
- And most importantly, fun!
There is a totally free choice when it comes down to who is selected as a Bridesmaid, so make sure that you take your time and choose the best people for the job.
