Think Weddings, Think Bridesmaids – now where have we seen that before? (it’s the first bit on our promo movie on our homepage in case you were wondering!) – but it’s true, as Bridesmaids are something synonymous with Weddings here in the UK.

To be asked to be a Bridesmaid is an honour and just as exciting as it was all those years ago when the tradition was first introduced. In case it ever crops up in a pub quiz, rumour has it that the idea was that Bridesmaids were included as they looked similar to the Bride in appearance and as such helped to confuse evil spirits – whatever! Another tradition, but this one is on its last legs, is that senior Bridesmaids are unmarried, but like we said (and much to the disappointment of any single Ushers at the Wedding) this tradition has largely died out.

As we've touched on already, it is a privilege to be a Bridesmaid and if you are chosen you should consider yourself honoured – it can be hectic at times, but on the whole it is fun from beginning to end – so if you are one of the lucky few, let’s take a look at what tasks you can expect to come your way:

  • Travelling to the Service along with any other Bridesmaids, Flower Girls, Page Boys and the Mother of the Bride.
  • Attending all dress fittings and not complaining if there is something you don’t like about your outfit!
  • Attending the Wedding rehearsal and make sure you know where you need to be and what you need to be doing.
