Helping to arrange anything that may be passed your way – transport is the most likely thing, but it’s best to liaise with both the Bride and Groom so don’t go off and just choose what you think would look right!
Contacting the Bride and Groom the day before to make sure everything is in place and that no last minute changes have taken place. This is also an opportunity to get hold of any telegrams or messages that you will have to read out during your speech.
Helping the photographer to arrange any formal snaps.
Being the font of all knowledge when it comes to the Service and Reception venues. Like the Ushers, you will need to know where guests are able to park, directions, exits and entrances and, most importantly, where the bar is. A mobile phone for emergencies (set to silent during the Service & speeches!) is an essential item these days for any Best Man.
Acting as toastmaster for the day if no official toastmaster or Reception Venue assistant is performing the role. You will need to inform the guests when the receiving line is taking place, announce the speeches and cutting of the cake, help guests to their seats, and let guests know when the Bride and Groom are leaving.
Decorating the car that the Bride & Groom will leave the Reception venue in (they will love you forever for this one, but what the heck, it’s tradition!)
