Some of the most popular fillings for cakes are listed below:

  • Buttercream with Jam, Lemon/Orange Curd or Marmalade
  • Flavoured Buttercream, such as Lemon, Orange, Toffee or Coffee
  • Chocolate Buttercream - made by adding real chocolate or cocoa
  • Rich Chocolate Icing / Ganache - Made from real chocolate, fresh whipping cream and liquid glucose - the ultimate filling for a chocolate cake!
  • Fudge Icing -Butter, brown sugar, icing sugar and treacle or golden syrup.

Whilst they may be some of the more popular ones, recent combinations we have heard of include apple & cinamon and whiskey & honey, so you really are only limited by your imagination. As already mentioned, discuss your thoughts and preferences with your cake maker in advance and ask whether your choice for cake type and filling can be suitably combined. In most cases the answer will be yes, and the result will be ‘yum!’.
