  • If the cake is a single structure, ask someone at the venue for assistance in moving it – a cart with wheels is the best option as the cakes can be extremely heavy.
  • If your cake can be easily assembled then do so at the venue – don’t try to be clever and do it prior to arrival.
  • Don’t put any fancy finishing touches to the cake until absolutely necessary – when in its position at the Reception is the perfect time.

A lot of Reception venues will suggest (or perhaps even dictate) where the cake is to be situated, but you are not tied to this – you are after all paying a lot of money to them and they should bend over backwards to accommodate! Once you are fully aware of the table plan and set-up, ask yourself which location would best showpiece the cake – it is a centre-piece of the day and should be in a prominent position. Ask the Reception venue which table will be used to display the cake and how it will be decorated – ideally a small table should be offered to enhance the overall look. You may wish to provide your own tablecloth in the colour scheme of the day and decorate it with scattered flower petals or confetti to enhance the wow factor – spotlights and candles can also serve this purpose.

After all the exciting things that you have had to think about and organise with regards the Wedding Cake, servings, durability, transport and display can seem a bit dull, but trust us when we say they are every bit as important (although we do agree that they are a little dull!).
