Cake Durability

A crucial bit of information you need to extract from the cake maker is how long they expect the cake(s) to last. Some couples will want to save the top tier for their one year anniversary as is tradition, whilst others may simply want to have some on return from their Honeymoon. Either way, it is far nicer to tuck into a fresh slice of cake than a mouldy slice, so ask your cake maker to be honest about the likely longevity of the product.

Transporting the Cake and Setting it up

If you have hired in a pro, then chances are that they will cover the transport and setting up of the cake. However, if a friend/relative has made it or it has been purchased direct from a shop, then getting it to the Reception and setting it up needs to be given careful consideration

There are a number of points to consider when transporting the cake to the venue:

  • Ideally try to get the cake to the venue and set up the night before. If you are unable to do so, make sure that someone outside the Wedding Party has responsibility for its transportation and set up – there is enough to do without adding additional worry!
  • Make sure there is a firm base in the vehicle and make sure that the vehicle is large enough to transport the cake – whatever you do, do not rest it on the front seat! Ideally place a foam mat on a wooden base then rest the cake(s) on the mat to prevent movement and promote stability.
