A honeymoon is a once in lifetime event that will be remembered forever and ever, so what better time to splash the cash and create an entry into the memory bank that will be forever etched. The ideas and options below are best suited to those with a little cash available, rather than the newlyweds who've blown every last penny on the big day. A range of cheap and cost-free honeymoon ideas are outlined in a separate article on the site.

Book up a Surprise Excursion

Surprise your partner with a pre-arranged trip out. If you book somewhere that stocks their favourite meal or a goes somewhere they’ve always wanted to go then that’s a bonus.

Hire a sports car for the week
Why make do with that ten year old Fiat Panda when you can travel in style (nothing against Fiat Panda's of course!). It’s extravagant, buy hey if you can afford it then go for it.

Book an Airport Lounge

It will cost roughly the cost of a mid-price meal for two, but an airport lounge will ensure you are away from all the hustle and bustle of the airport and can relax with a range of complimentary drinks and snacks.

What bang you get for you buck will vary from lounge to lounge so be sure to check in advance. Obviously if you are not travelling by air, then this probably isn’t the wisest way to spend your money!

Recreate your First Date

Now for those of you who did, we are not talking about s.e.x. (no comment), instead we mean things like ordering a bottle of champagne, buying a single red rose etc. Of course it needn’t cost a penny if you went for a stroll along the beachfront or shared a kiss in the rain, but just in case it did cost you a few quid we have placed this in mid-range marvels rather than fabulous freebies.

Do a once-in a-lifetime activity

Go swimming with dolphins or diving with sharks for example. Whatever it is, just make sure that it is a unique experience that neither of you has done before.

Try out each others favourite hobby

Whether it’s golf or salsa, we all have hobbies that our partner has no interest in! What better time than your honeymoon to give something like this a whirl and have a great laugh along the way.

Upgrade your plane ticket

Whether you go half-way and get extra leg room or the full way and go first class, start your honeymoon as you mean to go on – in style. It will cost you a few hundred quid at least, but if you are willing to risk it, you may be able to negotiate a discount if you book at the airport itself (or alternatively, try blagging!).
