Metallic colours will always feature in the Wedding to some degree – from the Wedding and engagement rings, through to the tiara and cake stand, and they make an attractive member of the colour scheme which complements a whole range of shades.
Deep golden shades work really well in an Oriental themed Wedding, or in a Chocolate themed one. Their warm and glowing characteristics can also complement an Autumn or Winter wedding and also work in harmony with other colours for a Fairy Tale Wedding theme. Lighter, brighter silvers and chromes work particularly well in Spring and Summer weddings and their contemporary nature will complement a modern wedding perfectly.
In terms of colours that they work with, the answer is pretty much everything. Obviously, you don’t want the colour to be swallowed up by others, so avoid bright yellows and oranges when using gold, and avoid light pinks and turquoises when opting for silver – that said, it is best to put the colours side by side before ruling them out completely as you will find that a slight tweak in the shade can have a really dramatic impact upon co-ordination.
There aren't any metallic coloured flowers that we know of (feel free to tell us if we are wrong!) although there are a number of yellow coloured ones that you could choose from. Your best bet would be to either choose a simple white bunch and have them wrapped in metallic tulle, or to use gold/silver/chrome/bronze simply as a support colour for a diffferent colour altogether and use those flowers in that colour instead.
Gold is a colour that characterises wealth, whilst silver is a very contemporary and modern metal, so use them throughout the day and factor them into as many aspects as you feel comfortable with, from embroidery on the Wedding Dress, to supporting colours on the stationery. Whilst the Groom’s accessories and the Bridesmaid’s gowns will probably be in the primary colour choice for the day, it is often a good idea to have the neckpieces and waistcoats / cummerbunds of the other male attendants in gold or silver. Favours, balloons and decorations will look good in a metallic colour whilst a degree of class and sophistication is added to the day when the cake contains a silver or gold opulent element to it.
