Directions to the Reception Venue
In many cases the Reception venue is the same as the Service Venue, so, if this is the case, please don’t waste any time preparing directions that simply read ‘go out of the door, turn right, down the corridor past the loo’s and it’s the first door on your left – the one with the big cake in it –you can’t miss it’! We are referring here to situations where the Service venue is a little way from the venue of the Reception, and in circumstances such as this guests will need to be advised how to get from one location to the next. A simple route plan with basic map should suffice (or head down the professional route as suggested on the previous page), or alternatively you could advise them to follow the wedding cars or even a guest who knows where they are going.
Menu Options
In the majority of cases, the meal at the Reception will consist of a single vegetarian and single non-vegetarian option – rarely will there be multiple options for the guests to choose from (and to be honest this even if this is offered it is not necessarily a good idea - costs will undoubtedly increase and the time it takes for the meal to be eaten will drastically go up). However, in advance of the day you will need to know how many vegetarian options are to be taken up or if there any attendees with gluten alergies or kosher requirements etc. There is no need to tell guests before the day what the meal will consist of (that would just ruin the fun!) so a simple, ‘Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements’ question to each of your guests should suffice.
Nearby Accommodation
For guests travelling from afar (or for those local guests planning to have serious drink!) then nearby accommodation will be of great interest. It is likely that the Reception venue may well have rooms available, although you will be aware that there are restricted numbers and you may wish to determine in advance which friends and family these are to be offered to and reserve them accordingly. You should try to obtain other local accommodation details (names, addresses, contact details and travelling distance from the Reception venue) for your guests and perhaps also try to negotiate discounts in advance if guests make a reservation under your name – you may find that your guests can save up to 50% if you negotiate hard on their behalf!
