Preparation is key to the success of most things, and Wedding speeches are no different. Our first piece of preparation advice to you is to check out our guide below and try to put as many of our words of wisdom into practice as possible!

  • Put plenty of time aside to plan and write up your speech and approach it as though it was the most important thing you’d ever done.
  • Write (and re-write if necessary) your speech and practice it over and over again.
  • Reword any parts of the speech which you struggle to remember or read out.
  • Practice everywhere – in the shower, on your way to work, during the advert breaks etc.
  • Run your speech past a trusted source for their opinion – in particular seek feedback on the length of the speech, its delivery in terms of speed and loudness and your body language throughout.
  • Begin preparing your speech as far in advance as possible – we recommend at least 4 weeks before hand ideally, but it's never too early to start!
  • More is less, so write as much material as you can then get rid of the weaker bits nearer to the day making sure to cut out the waffle and any repetition.
  • Ideally use a password-protected word processing computer programme to draft your speech – it will need to be away from prying eyes and easily editable.
