Unlike with Church Ceremonies, there are no restrictions concerning Parish boundaries when selecting where to host your Civil Ceremony.
You are free to choose the ideal place for you and your partner to get wed, and believe us when we say that there are a huge number of places out there to choose from.
There are a number of factors that you may wish to consider when selecting the venue for your Civil Ceremony, some of which may be very particular to you (you may want somewhere with views of the sea or a venue that is steeped in history for example), but on the whole the same criteria keep cropping up when searching for the ideal location. To help you out, we have outlined the usual suspects in a little more detail below.
Distance from Starting Point
Unless you want to stay at the venue or nearby hotel the night before the Wedding, you will need to consider how long the journey will take from the places where you both getting ready. Typically, a journey of up to 30 minutes is acceptable although remember that the longer you are travelling, the more nervous you may become, the more creased your outfit may get and the more opportunity you will have to bail out (only kidding!). Think about potential traffic congestion, the route you will take, and the mode of transport when considering how far from where you get ready you are willing to travel.
Distance for ‘Special Guests’ to Travel
Probably not as big an issue as the distance to the venue from where you are getting ready, but older relatives will often struggle to manage very long journeys. If you need to get Grandma and Grandpa to the Service stress and worry free, think about how long they have to travel to get to the venue. Also think about guests who do not drive and will be need to be picked up, guests who may need to take expensive taxi journeys, guests who have disabilities and of course, think about them all in relation to the start time of your Wedding.
