With regards venue, the same principles apply to Civil Partnerships as they do to Civil Weddings, so gay couples are not restricted to holding their ceremonies in Register Offices. With so much choice available, we have produced an article entitled Choosing the Venue - it is well worth a read for those of you who are undecided about where to hold one of the most important events in your life.

Arranging the Service

Arranging a Civil Partnership is as easy as arranging a Civil Wedding and it is simply done through your local Register Office. The rules and regulations that apply to heterosexual couples in arranging a Civil Wedding also apply to homosexual couples arranging a Civil Partnership.

For those of you who may be worrying about getting any disapproving looks from the Registrars at the Register Office, don’t worry, you can be sure that the Registrar you speak to will be more than happy to carry out the Ceremony and will not object on the grounds of their views or conscience. How can we be so sure you may ask? Well in a nutshell, in order to be authorised to perform a Civil Partnership Ceremony, a Registrar needs to be authorised to do so, and whilst around 10 to 20% of Registrars up and down the country have not applied for this authorisation, the remaining 80 to 90% have done – you can therefore be guaranteed that the man or woman you speak to will be supportive from the first time you meet them right up to the day of your Ceremony.

Check out the article entitled Arranging the Service for more information on what you need to do, or click here to read about how a typical Civil Partnership Ceremony will run.
