Civil Partnerships are still a relatively new phenomenon, and as such there really isn’t a typical Ceremony that you can point to and define as typical of how the run. However, that won’t stop us here at Weddingsday trying!
A Civil Partnership can be formed in one of three ways, from the simple to the more elaborate. The three ways are:
-
The signing of a Civil Partnership document before the Registrar and two witnesses at a Register Office.
-
A brief Civil Ceremony with vows and the signing of a Civil Partnership document at an approved venue with your friends and family present.
-
A full Commitment Ceremony and signing of a Civil Partnership document at an approved venue including readings, music and the exchange of vows.
The first one is pretty straightforward and the second one is just a smaller version of the third, so guess which one we will be outlining here – you guessed it the first one… just joking, the third one of course. Here goes.
Pre-Preparation
Around twenty minutes before the Ceremony is due to start, the couple and their two witnesses will meet with the Registrar to confirm final arrangements and sign the necessary paperwork and make payments. During this time the Ushers will greet guests as they arrive and music may be played to the gathering guests.
Entrance of the Couple
The couple will enter the room usually accompanied by music played by a harpist, string quartet or CD played over the speaker system.
