For both the day and evening receptions, you will probably want to conclude your meal (be it a buffet or a sit down affair) with a sweet treat. For any reder who doesn't want to, move on to a different article right now and hang your head in shame!

As already mentioned for one or both of these you could serve the Wedding Cake but there are pro's and cons for doing this, all of which is discussed in more detail in the next article.

The key thing about desserts is that they should be appropriate for your meal.  A hot dessert won’t work well on an evening buffet when everyone is eating at different times, similarly you may encounter problems serving slices of gateaux from platters circulated by waiters and the last thing some people will want after a hearty 4 course meal is a stodgy pudding and custard. However, having said all of this the most skillful of chefs will be able to design your perfect dessert to compliment any type of meal.  For example, if you are set on having Sticky Toffee Pudding & Butterscotch Sauce as the final course of your substantial sit-down meal, why not - Ask your chef to create small individual puddings served with a dash of sauce and a small scoop of ice-cream.

However, there are certain desserts which best compliment the different meal options for your day. Some popular choices for each meal option are detailed below:

Possible Desserts to accompany Main Courses or Gourmet Buffets

  • Freshly made Profiteroles with Warm Chocolate Sauce and Vanilla Ice-Cream
  • Mango Cheesecake with sweet Passion Fruit Cream
  • Chocolate Truffle Cake with Chantilly Cream
  • Griottine Cherry and Almond Tart, Black Cherry Compôte and Clotted Cream
  • Sablé of Fresh Strawberries and Vanilla Cream
  • White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake with a Bitter Chocolate Sauce
  • Caramelised Lemon Tart with Cassis Sorbet
