There are two main types of buffet, a finger buffet that consists of food, which can be eaten without the use of cutlery (e.g. Finger Food), or a Fork Buffet (you can see where it’s going can’t you!), which can be either hot or cold food but is normally eaten with cutlery.
A Finger Buffet is the most informal option, your guests will help themselves to a selection of Finger Food and will choose between standing or sitting to eat. This is normally most popular for an evening reception as guests can help themselves throughout the evening. This kind of buffet can be quite difficult to organise for an afternoon reception particularly if you want to combine toasts and speeches. Whichever part of your day (or if at all) you choose to include a finger buffet don’t think that it has to consist of sausage rolls, pork pies, cheese-on-sticks and crisps – though you certainly wouldn’t get any complaints from me if it did!
