A hot trend for weddings is to turn the world of canapés on its head. Instead of serving them in addition to the Wedding Breakfast and an evening buffet, serve them later on the evening in place of a separate buffet.
Contemporary nibbles can be served on platters by waiters for your guests to pick at during the evening. Canapé style bites should be edible in one or two mouthfuls, larger nibbles should be easily carried by a single hand and be as easy to eat as a sandwich. This can often be a slightly cheaper option than a full-blown buffet but gives the image of an expensive, contemporary affair. Canapés can be served during the 'cocktail hour' the time between the welcome drink and the meal (usually when the Bride and Groom are having most of their photographs taken) or, as mentioned, above in place of an evening buffet.
