A hot trend for weddings is to turn the world of canapés on its head. Instead of serving them in addition to the Wedding Breakfast and an evening buffet, serve them later on the evening in place of a separate buffet.

Contemporary nibbles can be served on platters by waiters for your guests to pick at during the evening.  Canapé style bites should be edible in one or two mouthfuls, larger nibbles should be easily carried by a single hand and be as easy to eat as a sandwich.  This can often be a slightly cheaper option than a full-blown buffet but gives the image of an expensive, contemporary affair. Canapés can be served during the 'cocktail hour' the time between the welcome drink and the meal (usually when the Bride and Groom are having most of their photographs taken) or, as mentioned, above in place of an evening buffet.

Sample Menu Options for Contemporary Nibbles

  • Miniature Fish & Chips - Served traditionally in paper cones, thich cut chips with fish goujons;
  • Individual Toad-in-the-holes;
  • A Selection of Hot Sandwiches (such as bacon, sausage, sliced beef and onion);
  • Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese Bagels.

These larger menu items can be made to go further by supplementing them with platters of Canapés.

Possible Options for a Canapé Menu

  • Smoked Salmon and Sun Blushed Tomato Baked Mini Quiche
  • Cappaccio of Beef with Horseradish Cream
  • Olive & Feta Scones Filled with Cream Cheese & Cranberries
  • Chicken Liver Mousse on Melba Toast
  • Chicken Satay Skewers
  • Fresh Crab, Cucumber and Fresh Herb Croustade
  • Thai Green Chicken filled Choux Pastry Buns
    Goats Cheese and Sun-dried Tomato Wonton
  • Cherry Tomato and Smoked Cheese Brochette
  • Sweet Chilli Chicken on Foccotta Bread
  • Stomboli filled with Spinach & Mozzarella Cheese
