When you think about enhancing the look of a venue to create the ultimate party theme, some of the first items that immediately spring to mind are balloons and decorations.

For use both inside and outside, balloons and decorations can add that touch of glamour to a table and help to liven up even the darkest of venue corners.

Let's take a look at some of the main items that fall into this category and some ideas on how to best use them.

Balloons

Perhaps the quintesesntial decorative item, it is a rarity to go to a wedding and not see them in some for or another.

Available in a whole host of colours and sizes, balloons range from the plain variety that is the mainstay of children's birthday parties, through to the more sleek and sophisticated opaque design which can help to add a touch of class. For those after something a little different, balloons can be printed with horseshoes, wedding day wishes or even personalised with the names of the happy couple and the wedding date. Another alternative is to steer away from the tradtion, and opt for balloons in heart or other shapes.

For those looking for a more elaborate style of balloon, large balloons filled with smaller ones and/or confetti can really add intrigue and interest. For an even greater impact, you could even arrange for them to be triggered to explode during the evening's festivities – showering the guests on the dance floor and creating amazing reactions and delight.

Much of the decorative effect of balloons is obtained from their grouping and positioning. For example, single balloons sticky-taped to the walls will give off little of an impression, but balloons placed in groups of 3 or 5 (or more) that are scattered in key areas of the venue and tied together with swags of ribbon or tulle can really help set the scene. Likewise, balloon arches and arcs over doorways can create a dramtic focal point.

For something a little different, why not place air-filled balloons in a net above the dance floor and release them during the first dance? Alternatively, you could consider a mass 'balloon release' whereby helium filled balloons would be passed out amongst the guests, or placed in a giant net, and then set free on the command of, or by, the couple - you could even tie luggage style tags on to them with your name and wedding date.
