Think wedding planners, and right about now you are probably picturing Franck Eggelhoffer from Father of the Bride – you know, that rather eccentric and quite camp guy played by Martin Short? Well, sorry to break it to you, but that’s not what you’re likely to get (unless you shop around!).

Wedding planners are originally an American phenomenon that have spread ‘across the pond’ and are becoming more and more popular in the UK each year. With all that needs planning and organising for a wedding it can seem daunting at times, especially if you feel like you have to do it all yourself. Wedding planners have an in-depth knowledge of planning weddings, can tailor the event to meet you exact budget and can relieve the burden and ease the stress during what is, after all, one of the most busy and intense periods of your life.

A wedding planner will work closely with you and ensure that all your wants and needs are catered for – they will be able to suggest innovative and unusual alternatives and provide a professional service that helps to deliver the wedding of your dreams.

There are quite a number of wedding planners out there, all of whom offer a similar but not identical service. Certain companies/individuals will offer tailor made packages that do not provide a one-stop-shop, but instead can help in identifying the ideal venue or source preferred suppliers. Others will offer the full service from beginning to end and may even be able to negotiate discounts with certain product and service suppliers via long term relationships that they have built up with them, although do you need to ensure that they are making an unbiased decision and are not entitled to some of the profits!
