Many bridal magazines and books run features on what you need to do and by when – most start 12 months before the big day but feature just the basic activities, but that wouldn't be good enough for us!
Below we feature the Weddingsday Countdown timeline which covers each and every activity leading up to your big day to ensure you don’t miss a single thing. In the near future, a useful printable version and interactive 'Countdown Card' will be available in the MyWeddingsday section of the site - both will be totally free for registered users (it's free to register as well by the way!). Keep an eye on the 'Recent Updates' area on the homepage and be one of the first to know when they are available.
So then, on with the countdown...
12 Months+
- Get engaged!
- Tell your parents (and other relatives and friends) of your plan to marry.
- Organise and hold engagement party. Optional
- Formally announce your engagement in local newspapers. Optional
- Set the date of your wedding.
- Hire a Wedding Coordinator. Optional
- Arrange wedding insurance. Optional, but highly recommended
- Select the overall theme of your wedding.
- Set a budget and allocate responsibilities for organising elements of your wedding.
- Choose your attendants - Best Man, Bridesmaids, Ushers, Page Boys & Flower Girls.
- Begin drawing up your guest list - ceremony, day and evening.
- Decide on the type of ceremony you would like.
- If a religious service is the favoured option, approach the ceremony venue for booking timescale.
- Set the criteria for your Reception venue and begin to shortlist.
- Start the search for your wedding dress.
- Start the search for your Reception Venue and make a provisional reservation (if possible, if not make a firm booking).
- If you are having a Civil Wedding, start the search for the Service venue and make a provisional reservation (if possible, if not make a firm booking).
- Book a photographer.
- Book a videographer if required.
