A figure hugging skirt around the hips, following the curve of the leg and narrowing at the knee. From the knee it follows the line of the leg until it reaches the middle of the calf, where it flairs out to the ground. Think Morticia from the Addams Family. Suitable for adult Bridesmaids, but not particularly recommended for the junior ones.
Pencil
A pencil skirt differs from the A-line by being cut straight down rather than at a slightly outwards angle. This skirt will skim the hips and fall in a straight line to your chosen length. It works well with traditional ‘v’ bodices and as an empire line dress (see our page on bodices). It can also be used at the full range of lengths from mini (for all those super sassy bridesmaids) to floor length (for those bridesmaids taking part in a more sophisticated affair).

Ankle Length
Cut to the ankle, this length is great for women with overwhelming fears of tripping and falling onto the Bride as they follow her down the aisle! It is also very practical as it maintains its traditional feel but makes moving around a lot easier. It works is a superb option for junior bridesmaids who may seem a little swamped in a floor/full length dress.
