Your son or daughter’s wedding is a very exciting time and as the day dawns you’ll be looking forward to dressing up and feeling great. So after months (perhaps years!) of prep and hundreds (perhaps thousdands) of pounds of expense, at last you get a chance to let your heair down and look fabulous.
That said, you won’t be able to totally chill-out and swan around just looking gorgeous. It is likely that you will spend the day dashing here, there and everywhere, making sure that people know where they are supposed to be and dancing the night away or milling around with guests. With this in mind, when picking your outfit, comfort should be at the forefront of your mind!
So jogging bottoms at the ready - OK, perhaps not, but you do need to ensure that you look as fresh at the end of the day as at the beginning. Consider whether this gives you an overwhelming urge to avoid tight fitting outfits, crease-tastic linen and 4-inch stilettos.
There are 3 main types of outfit for Mothers of the Bride and Groom to choose from (although you are only really limited by your own imagination - and the opinion of your son or daughter of course – look out for the ‘You’re not wearing that Mum, are you?’ comment):
Cocktail/Evening Wear
A cocktail-wear is an elegant gown which is very dressy. Cocktail dresses are normally made from silk, satin, taffeta or chiffon and decorated with sparkles or embroidery. Typically these dresses are ankle length or shorter (all the way up to above the knee) and all of the styles described within our bridal wear section are possible. These dresses would normally be accessorised with stoles, wraps or bolero rather than tailored jackets. They differ from occasion-wear by being of suitable design and colour to be appropriate wear at a formal evening function. Evening gowns are similar but the skirts tend to be floor length and full.
