Suits You Sir

Before we get to the really fun bit of actually choosing the outfit (menswear options are covered in great detail in the three articles entitled ‘Morning Wear’, ‘Evening Wear’ and ‘Highland Wear’) the final piece of advice we would give is to make sure that the outfits chosen are both comfortable and complementary. From NBA basketballers to oompa-loompas there are outfits and styles that will flatter even the tallest, shortest, thinnest and fattest frames. Tailors and outfitters will be more than happy to advise what style will suit best although only the individual can say what feels the most comfortable – in case you were wondering, it is not essential that all the male Wedding Party members wear exactly the same style outfit (for example, taller gents may suit tailcoats whist shorter guys may benefit from a Prince Edward jacket instead). Chest, inside leg, waist, collar and sleeve length measurements will all need to be taken and it is important that the shirt isn’t too loose (a good fit will allow a maximum of a couple of fingers to fit between neck and collar), the jacket isn’t too tight (if buttons on the jacket are to be fastened, the jacket shouldn’t visibly crease when done so) and the trousers aren’t too long (the hemline should rest about half an inch from the sole of the shoe). The male Wedding Party members will spend many an hour wearing the outfit, so make sure that no rushed decisions are taken and that the final choice provides comfort, a good fit and an abundance of style to the wearer.

Armed with the basics it is now time to move onto the looking at the options open Groom’s when choosing what outfit they, and the other members of the Wedding Party, will be wearing on the Big Day. If you’re up form some more reading, why not head straight to the other articles in this section for some more invaluable styling advice.
