Co-Ordinate

When it comes down to colours and styles, the traditional route to go down is for male Wedding Party members to co-ordinate with the Bridesmaids, and all members of the Wedding Party (Bride excluded) to wear outfits that match both the theme and colour scheme for the day. If the Bridesmaids are all wearing big frilly dresses then to have the male Wedding Party members all dressed in modern lounge suits would look a bit odd. Likewise if the colour scheme for the day is lilac and silver then to have the Bridesmaids wear this colour and the male members of the Wedding Party go down a completely different route would be unwise. Waistcoats and neckpieces are often the best ways to incorporate and pull together colours, whilst the style and cut of the jacket is one of the better ways to draw upon the theme. Not all outfits need be identical and if, for example, the colour scheme is coffees and creams, then to have the Groom in a brown frock coat with coffee coloured waistcoat and cream cravat with the remaining male members of the Wedding Party in brown frock coats with cream waistcoats and coffee coloured cravats is perfectly acceptable. When making the decision as to the outfits for the male members of the Wedding Party, make sure that both the colour scheme and any theme for the day are kept at the forefront of the mind.

Make Your Own Decision

Deciding anything by committee can be a nightmare. Whilst it is all well and good for the Groom to seek the advice of the other male Wedding Party members, to do so could drive him nuts. In an ideal world everyone will have views but will be happy to go along with whatever the Groom suggests. However, we all know that the chance of this happening is slim. ‘I don’t want to wear cream’, ‘that type of suit jacket makes me look fat’ (as a bloke myself I am not ashamed to say that I have said this from time to time!), and ‘there’s no way I will wear a top hat – it will mess my hair up’ (as a balding bloke, you are unlikely to hear me say this!) are just some of the comments that will fly the Groom’s way if everyone is involved from the outset. By far the best way is for the Groom to have an idea in mind (after discussing plans with the Bride and remember the theme and colour scheme for the day) before putting it out to discussion with the Best Man et al. This way, the Groom can help to ensure that he is getting exactly what he wants rather than what he feels would make everyone else happy.
