They say that you can judge a man by his choice in footwear, so whilst you may be thinking that no-one will be looking, we’ll go on record and state that you won’t be able to get away with borrowing your dad’s ten year old pair of scruffy Hush Puppies for the day.

Instead, either hire a pair of shoes from your local outfitters (ideal if you only intend to wear them once) or instead grab yourself a decent pair that you can wear again after the day from the high street or online. There are a huge variety of shoes out there and to try and talk about each on in turn would take forever, so instead we will highlight the three main options open to you and let you decide on which ones you will be polishing before the day (make sure you do!) and saying ‘I do’ in on the Big Day itself.

Shoes

Shoes come in all styles and materials, and are the only real choice for a Groom or Groomsman wearing Morning, Evening or Military Wear to the Wedding. From patent leather cream shoes that look ace with a cream tux, through to highly polished black brogues that work well with a Frock Coat, there quite a lot of choices out there. If the suit has a brown tint and would look best with brown shoes then make sure all the male Wedding Party members are aware of this. Likewise, for a fully co-ordinated look, then make sure that shoes are either hired or that everyone buys the same pair to avoid mixed shades and some guys wearing slip-on’s while the others wear lace-ups. Squared ends to the shoes make feet look smaller whilst rounded (or pointed) shoes give the feet a larger appearance (ideal for those Groomsmen on the pull!). Leather shoes will ‘give’ more than their synthetic counterparts and it is essential, regardless of the material, that they are worn before the day at least once so that they can stretch to fit and help eliminate the possibility of blisters. Finally, we have said it before but it is worth mentioning again, make sure that the shoes are polished before they are worn – a clean and shiny pair of shoes will look far better than a dirty, scuffed pair.
