So, you know exactly what you're after and have negotiated a cracking deal on your dream honeymoon. All's well and the only thing to do now is sit back and wait for the wedding to conclude so you can go on your merry way.

Correct? Sadly not. In fact, you couldn't be further from the truth!

'So what else needs to be done', and 'why can't we just sort it out when we arrive' we hear you cry? In short, quite a bit and if you don't tackle some of the things beforehand then you will never get there in the first place!

When it comes down to honeymoon practicalities, it is never too early to start, especially when you consider that there is the small matter of a marriage taking place around the same time! Some tasks obviously need to be done nearer the date (the packing for example), but others can be started right away. Let's take a high level look at the main things that you need to focus on.

ASAP

Visas: Find out whether there are any entry requirements for the country you are heading to. If there are, these things can take a while to sort out so make sure that it is sorted early.

Money: If you've read the Money Saving Tips article you will know that it is never too early to begin thinking about your travellers cheques and foreign currency.

Health: Your wellbeing is of paramount importance so make sure that you have had all the necessary injections and have taken all the necessary health precautions.

3 Months Before

Passports: If any name changes are taking place or if passports need renewing, now is the time to make those all important modifications.

Transport & Travel: Parking and transfers at both this end and the destination end need to be arranged. Click here to read more about this.

A Day or Two Before

Housekeeping: Make sure that all bases are covered back home and that all the essential paperwork is taken care of and in order.

Packing: Leave the packing till late on otherwise all the ironing will have been in vain! For tips on how to cram more into your tiny suitcases click here.

For those of you who are interested in finding out more about each of the practical elements mentioned above, we have articles that cover each in much greater depth in this part of the site. If you want to ensure that you get away smoothly, have a safe and sound honeymoon, and come back to a happy home they are well worth checking out.
