• Dine at the top restaurant in town: Put your glad rags on and head off out to that place where the menu is jam-packed with posh restaurant speak (confit, dauphinoise, coulis – you catch our drift).

• Book a day trip to the spa: Fill your visit with treatments in a couples room – massages, reflexology and reiki are popular choices, but beware that the costs can quickly mount up!

• Book the Penthouse Suite: All hotels have their ‘best room’, so why not book into it? If you are a little short of cash, you could always just do so for the first few nights before dropping back to something more affordable.

• Hire a Ferrari for the week: Why make do with that ten year old Fiat Panda when you can travel in style (nothing against Fiat Panda's of course!). It’s extravagant, buy hey if you can afford it then go for it.

One last thing to remember is that each vacation spot has its own special activities and haunts that you can partake in or go to, so seek advice from the concierge or investigate before you go.
