OK, so we understand that you've already got a lot on your plate at the moment. However, if you can find the time, then the things highlighted in this article are well worth checking out prior to departure.
· Latest Travel Advice: It is unlikely to happen (unless you plan to go to a sunspot in somewhere like Afghanistan), but from time to time the Foreign Office will issue warnings about travelling to certain locations. Check their website out just before you go and follow any advice given. There is little possibility that they will advise against travel completely, but they may warn you about visiting certain towns and villages – this info can be extremely important and should always be adhered to for your own good.
· Medical Needs: Check with your doctor as soon as possible whether you will need to take any special medication or, more likely, undergo a vaccination or two to ensure your health remains in tact whilst you’re abroad.
· Weather forecasts: We know that on the whole, weather forecasters are about as reliable as politicians (how many of you remember a young looking Michael Fish telling you that there wouldn’t be a hurricane hitting the UK in 1987?), but from time-to-time they do get it right and are well worth looking at if you get the chance.
· Pre-booked Excursions: If there is something you desperately want to do or see while you are away there is a good chance you may be able to book an excursion from back home. A pre-booked trip with a reputable UK company will leave you safe in the knowledge that you won’t be ripped off by ‘El Cowboy Travel’ at your resort and you may be able to save a few quid in the process.
· Flight details: Just before you set off (up to 24 hours in advance is best) confirm flight details just in case those pesky air traffic controllers have gone on strike again leaving you grounded for a couple of days.
