WEDDING SONGS

Ideas and advice on popular music and songs for your Wedding Ceremony

Wedding ceremony songs provide a romantic and contemporary alternative or addition to the traditional and classic wedding music that many couples will opt for. This article takes a closer look at all the factors that should be considered prior to choosing the wedding ceremony songs for your marriage service.

How Many Wedding Ceremony Songs Can You Choose?

The inclusion of wedding ceremony songs is very much at the discretion of the Superintendent Registrar. As long as they agree, the songs will likely either be heard instead of, or straight after/before, the readings.

In a typical ceremony, there will be two opportunities for wedding ceremony songs to be played. Of course, there is nothing to prevent you (other than the Registrar of course!) opting for romantic songs to be played in lieu of traditional or instrumental music for the prelude, wedding processional, register signing and wedding recessional should you wish.

Are there any Restrictions on Song Choice?

Yes. As with any wedding ceremony music you choose, the wedding ceremony songs must be suitable for the occasion, and of a non-religious nature. How literally your Registrar determines the latter is very much down to personal interpretation.

We have heard of Angles by Robbie Williams being disallowed simply because of it’s title, and other tracks being rejected because of the lyrics (such as Whitney Houston’s ‘My Love is Your Love’ which contains the line ‘And the Lord asked me what I did with my life’). In most cases however, so long as you avoid hymns, or their equivalents, you should be OK.

Can We Enlist the Services of a Musician?

There is absolutely no reason as to why a professional singer cannot be used to perform your wedding ceremony songs.

Professionals can set you back anything from a few hundred pounds to well into four figures, and you can sometimes be restricted by their repertoire, so ensure you shop around to find the best one.

What Are The Most Popular Songs?

When it comes to selecting your wedding ceremony songs, even with the couple of restraints we have already mentioned, you are still left with a pretty huge choice. Romantic love songs such as 'Amazed' by Lonestar and Aerosmith's 'I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing' are always popular, whilst classic songs like Elvis' 'I Ca't Help Falling in Love' are rightfully favourites.
