As we reported last month, the Walt Disney Company has recently announced a new 'Fairy Tale Wedding' programme, but restricted them to straight couples only. However, in a surprising and welcome u-turn, Disney Corporation has now announced that same-sex couples are now also able to tie the knot in front of Cinderella's Castle.
Previously, gay couples were allowed to organize their own partnership ceremonies at conference rooms at the various resorts, but were barred from purchasing the Fairy Tale Wedding package or holding the ceremony at locations set aside for weddings.
According to Disney Parks and Resorts spokesman Donn Walker, 'We are updating our Fairy Tale Wedding guidelines to include commitment ceremonies, this is consistent with our policy of creating a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment for all of our guests."
About time Disney, but well done nonetheless.
