According to a recent survey, more than half those questioned would consider getting married abroad.

The survey, carried out by First Choice Travel Shops and Holiday Hypermarkets, asked 2,571 people if they would contemplate an overseas marriage - and 57% said 'yes'.

With weddings abroad costing around a sixth of UK equivalents, many cited the expense of weddings alongside other factors such as the bad weather, hassle, and family feuding as reasons behind their opinions.

The survey shows that the Irish are the most likely to wed abroad, with Barbados being the pick of the overseas destinations.

Wherever you do decide to get married, just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons - not like the 1% of those surveyed who said that 'receiving expensive gifts' was the main reason for tying the knot!
