South Africa's parliament has voted to legalise same sex Weddings giving yet another demonstration of just how advanced and progressive their constitution is.

An overwhelming vote of 230 to 41 saw the Civil Union Bill sail through parliament, despite strong oppostion from Church leaders.

The South African Constitutional Court ruled in 2005 that is was 'unconstitutional' to deny same-sex couples the right to wed, and less than a year later, 'gay weddings' have been approved.

There is now a queue of couples lining up to be the first ones to marry under the new law, and one South African jewellery store has even pledged several thousand pounds worth of jewellery to the first couple to do so!

One day, let's hope the UK politicians can be as forward thinking and proactive as our African friends!
