When to Have It?

If there is a set activity you have in mind whose date is already set in stone (a trip to see the Bride's favourite band in concert for example) then obviously people will either be able to make it or they won’t. As long as you inform everyone far enough in advance, and assuming they have not already booked a holiday or have other plans, then you should find that most people can shuffle things round in their diary to accommodate.

If you have a number of alternative dates in mind, try to find out which one most people can make and, using the prioritised list of attendees, determine the most suitable one.

The one thing you need to ensure above all else is that the Bride-to-be is free to attend. If it is a surprise, make sure that you either arrange holiday with their bosses, or sort out alternative arrangements for any task they are due to be performing.

What is the budget?

The budget needs to be considered alongside the type of activity, the location and list of attendees. If the people coming along are of the opinion that money is of no object, then this isn’t really an issue. However, in most circumstances this won't be the case, so you will need to think long and hard about how much they realistically will be able to spend. Better still, why not ask them direct? You will be surprised at how much people are prepared to lay out for a good old knees-up for a close friend, and if you inform them well enough in advance, they should have time to save up that extra bit of cash.

Whilst it is by no means ‘wedding law’, you may also wish to consider arranging for everyone to put a little extra into the kitty. The idea behind this is to either pay outright, or to buy something special, for the Bride-to be. It is also likely that you will need to coordinate the funds, so make sure you know how much any deposits are, and when they need to be paid. On top of this you will also need to be aware of the date(s) when balances are due and (more importantly), who has paid and who hasn’t!

When to Have It?

At the same time you are finalising the guest list, determining the budget and focussing upon dates, you will need to pay close attention to the really fun bit - determining where to go and what to do!

From pubbing and clubbing in your local city centre, to spa breaks and sphering in exotic locations overseas, the world is literally your oyster. You'll find that the date you've decided upon will knock some activities and locations on the head, as will the attendees. Additionally, if you've got only a little cash to play with you'll need to be creative.

For a whole host of fun ideas and destination advice, be sure to check out our stag & hen activities and stag & hen destinations articles, and when you're done with those our hen party fancy dress ideas will provide you with some great suggestions for personalising the whole celebration.

A Final Word on Planning

Organising a hen party is just like pulling together a mini-project, and even if you have never done any form of project planning there's still no need to panic. You should find that friends and relatives of the bride will be more than willing to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in, but even if they aren't, bespoke Hen Party Planner companies can easily be tracked down and will help organise the whole thing, taking away any stresses you may have.

The one thing you need to remember above all else is to enjoy the whole hen party planning rigmarole - let's face it, it’s not every day your best friend gets hitched!
