First things first, when choosing where to make a marriage proposal you do not have to automatically think you need to jet off somewhere expensive.

Whilst whisking your partner away for a break to remote desert island would be a fantastic option, just bear in mind that a romantic stroll along the riverside, following a lovely meal in a beautiful restaurant or simply snuggled up on the couch in front of an open fire are much, much cheaper options - each conveys just as much love and emotion and will be equally as memorable in years to come.

Try to choose a location you feel comfortable in. The last thing you need when you are trying to engineer a situation to make it practically perfect is to be in a location where you and you partner are uncomfortable. If posh restaurants aren’t your thing and 5 star relaxing breaks don’t float your boat, then do it as part of something you both enjoy. If you can’t relax your proposal will be less than natural.

If you are planning a marriage proposal which is more than a little special, try to ensure that your partner doesn’t suspect anything. This may be hard, but if you are planning to take them abroad, pretend it is an early/late Xmas or birthday present – this may help to disguise your cunning little plan!

When thinking about where to propose, you should also give some consideration as to when the proposal will take place. On the top of a snowy peak whilst out skiing may sound lovely, but if it is summer and the snow has all melted then you may look a little odd in ski boots and a bobble hat. Likewise you may also need to be a little flexible on dates – for example, if you are planning to propose in a helicopter ride the flight may be delayed or postponed due to strong winds – so be aware of such things in advance.
