Blues are a tranquil colour that can be used to stunning effect within a colour scheme for a wedding. The darker shades are suitable for weddings at any time of year whilst the lighter ones perfectly accompany a midsummer’s marriage.

For any couple who are thinking about having a themed wedding, blue will complement a beach theme ideally with its nautical glow. Similarly, blues are also a good choice for a Fairy Tale wedding theme. Any wedding venue near the sea, or one with lakes and ponds will work well with a blue colour scheme and it is one colour that can truly be both masculine and feminine at the same time.

Blues work perfectly with other blues, but darker shades can also be used to dramatic effect with greens and reds to produce vivid imagery. Lighter shades can work well with lemons and pinks. In terms of a metallic option, silver or chrome will blend the best although gold will work well with darker shades.

Flowers are one of the easiest and most dramatic ways to showcase your colour scheme and there are a wide range of blue flowers that you may wish to choose should you wish. A number of the most popular ones are listed below:

·         Anemone

·         Cornflower

·         Delphinium

·         Hyacinth

·         Hydrangea

·         Iris

·         Monkshood

·         Trachelium

·         Veronica

If you are choosing blues, factor them into all aspects of the day from embroidery on the Wedding Dress, to supporting colours on the stationery. The Bridesmaids should obviously be wearing the colour, whilst the Groom and male attendants outfits should have matching neckpieces and waistcoats / cummerbunds. Many vintage wedding cars are often two-tone combining white with another colour – in many cases this other colour is blue, so why not try to get hold of such vehicles for your day. The Wedding Cake, balloons, decorations and flowers should also have elements of blues in them to reflect the colour scheme.
