Wedding Planning Tools

An autumn wedding (or fall wedding depending upon your preference) is one that is naturally full of colour from the trees and leaves all around. There is a crisp, fresh feel to any autumn wedding theme and this time of year naturally lends itself to romantic occassions. This article takes a closer look at how to style your big day, from beginning to end, when opting for an autumn wedding theme.

Colours for a Fall / Autumn Wedding Theme

Colours play a big part in setting the scene to any big day, and when it comes to an autumn wedding theme there are a few options available to you. Ivory or cream (but avoid a starker white) would look superb with gold, or if you were looking to involve a non-metallic shade, look no further than nature itself. Bottle greens, browns and oranges and earthy terracotta are just some of the colours perfect for use at an autumn wedding theme.

Stationery for a Fall / Autumn Wedding Theme

A wedding invitation will often be the first thing that a guest receives regarding the wedding so it is important that they are used to set the scene for any theme that you plan to invoke.

Consider using dried, pressed flowers throughout your stationery or perhaps even plump for invites, svae the date cards et al inthe shape of sycamore leaves. As with most aspects of an autumn wedding theme, let nature steer the way.

Colours for a Fall / Autumn Wedding Theme
Traditional wedding cars look great at autumn weddings, and it is fairly easy to track down vintage and classic cars in greens and dark reds to help emphasise the theme and colour scheme. For shorter journeys, a covered horse and carriage would look superb.

Outfits for a Fall / Autumn Wedding Theme
A simple ivory or cream gown for the Bride, with a small degree of gold embroidery would make an ideal wedding dress - for those chilly autumn nights, look to complete the look with a fake-fur lined bolero. Contrast the Bride with golden bridesmaid dresses with cream/ivory embroidery and again complete the look with a shawl, cape, shrug or bolero.
Dark brown Frock coats for the gents would look fitting for the occasion. Ties and waistcoats to match the bridesmaids are ideal and consider pocket watches and canes to add somewhat of a traditional and rustic feel.
Flowers for a Fall / Autumn Wedding Theme
Seasonal blooms always work best - hydrangeas, dahlias, and gerberas are just some of the more popular flowers you may want to consider utilising in your boquets, posies, table centrepieces and other floral arrangements. Look to emphasise your autumn wedding theme with dried twigs and grasses.

Fall / Autumn Wedding Theme Venues
Country houses, or any locations with entensive grounds work well. Ideally, look for venues with a long tree-lined driveway.
Food & Drink for a Fall / Autumn Wedding Theme
Food and drink can really help to emphasise a wedding theme, so why not consider the following options when plumping for an autumn themed wedding.
Welcome Drink: Warm Apple Cider.

Reception Starter: Pumpkin Soup.
Reception Main Course: Braised Ham Hock.
Reception Desert: Cheese and Seasonal Fruit Platter.
’Evening Do’ Food: Warm jacket potatoes with a choice of filling or why not go the whole hog - literally with a hog roast!
The Wedding Cake: Consider a Croquembouche (profiterole tower cake) for maximum effect.

Decor & Favours for a Fall / Autumn Wedding Theme

Exploding balloons and party poppers make for fitting autumn wedding theme decorations. Pine cones and loose leaves – if appropriate perhaps even pumpkins and broomsticks could adorn the tables and room corners! When it comes to favours, consider pumpkin seeds and personalised mulled wine for the adults, toffee apples for the kids.
Music & Entertainment for a Fall / Autumn Wedding Theme
Fireworks are a must, whilst outdoor garden games could be an option if you can get hold of some powerful patio heaters. A jazz band and suitable DJ wouldn't be out of place music-wise.
